Online through Zoom
Wounding is a fundamental part of human experience and can connect us to the undeveloped and unknown aspects of ourselves. When we bring conscious awareness to the experience of being wounded, the psyche can be activated. Working in this way brings forth an experience of soul and evokes the profound mystery of life, which can be numinous. This is what Carl Jung called "the spirit of the depths" (Jung, 2009).
This opening can restore a sense of intactness alongside our woundedness and redirect the unarticulated parts of our wound into a form that assimilates healing, growth, and transformation. Even when wounds do not completely heal, the material generated from our wounded places can be reexamined and lead to reintegration that has a positive effect continuing to shape our consciousness as we evolve.
The workshop will show how wounding is connected to personal growth and can help becoming more fully ourselves, a process Jung called individuation. The presentation will be a combination of lecture, dream material, case examples, and personal stories. Included will be time for individual exploration.
Laura Chapman MA, LSW, is a Jungian Analyst and a psychotherapist who has been in private practice since 1980 in Cleveland, Ohio. She is a member of Jung Cleveland, a member of the Pittsburgh Society of Jungian Analysts, a member of the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts (IRSJA), as well as a member of the International Association for Analytical Psychology (IAAP). Laura’s early work as a psychotherapist included a somatic approach aimed at developing awareness between the body and mental/emotional processes. She brings this embodied approach to analytic work. Laura’s continued interest is how the conscious exploration of one's wounded places can facilitate an opening for change, growth, and the possibility of transformation.
